Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is indeed a very powerful system providing concepts, models and maps from some of the greatest minds in psychology. Founded by John Grinder and Richard Bandler several decades ago, NLP arguably remains as popular and relevant today as it’s ever been. Given its focus on Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic modalities, the system serves as a wonderful tool for HSPs in particular! I can truly attest to this as a “card-carrying member” of the HSP community, plus an NLP Life Coach and Master Practitioner. For example, the Life Metaphor exercise was so incredibly empowering that it continues to positively affect my life one year after the fact!
So what can NLP training do for you?
The system’s focus is on helping you achieve what you want in life (hopes/desires/dreams/goals). So for instance, we may become stuck in a particular area of our lives, whether via procrastination or being unsure how to proceed. The Physiology Map training from the iNLP Center’s Master Practitioner program offers useful ways to proceed once stuck. Other training and tools that HSPs may benefit from: understanding VAK (visual, auditory and Kinesthetic modalities) to avoid or limit over-stimulation; Reframing past/present/future challenges in life; Anchoring useful emotional states to be able to access them on demand; effective solutions to combat Self-Sabotage, and of course the Life Metaphor training.
Where to find NLP training?
There are many NLP books and articles available for those willing to put in some time and effort. There are also training facilities where one can explore and obtain certification…..my runaway favorite being the iNLP Center which offers a very unique and effective online training program. For those interested in working with a Life Coach, you can benefit by finding someone with a background in NLP, which provides the coach with many unique tools in which to support their client. Visit the International NLP Association to locate INA-approved individuals and organizations.
